BPF Spotlight Series: Student Accommodation Committee
đź’ˇ For this BPF Spotlight, we spoke with our Senior Policy Officer Kate Butler to get the latest on the Student Accommodation Committee. Here's what she had to say:
❓What’s the Student Accommodation Committee all about?
🗣️The committee’s job is to boost the supply of student housing and raise standards in the sector. We do this by driving best practices and pushing for policy changes through thought leadership, research, consultation responses and engaging with key stakeholders.
❓Who’s on the committee and who are its key stakeholders?
🗣️The Committee is made up of investors, developers, operators, advisors and university bodies, all involved in the purpose-built student accommodation sector.
Our key stakeholders include universities, local authorities, Parliament, Government and civil servants.
❓What’s currently keeping the committee busy?
🗣️Right now, we’re working on a research paper about improving planning policies and fostering better collaboration across the public and private sectors.
We’re also updating our 2019 Student Wellbeing Guidance, tackling the Renters’ Rights Bill and pushing for the return of SDLT Multiple Dwellings Relief.
âť“Who should think about joining the committee?
🗣️If your organisation is involved in PBSA and you want to help create a great student housing sector, this is the place for you!
