Unleash your creativity and shape the future of real estate at the BPF Futures Hackathon! This interactive and engaging afternoon offers a unique opportunity to network and brainstorm with peers and experts from across the real estate sector.

Collaborate in teams to prepare a short pitch for a panel of esteemed industry judges. Prompts will be provided to guide your brainstorming, encouraging you to consider environmental, social and economic angles. The question will be provided on the day, but you'll be asked to think about what changes you think will help the sector to achieve ambitious goals and to consider a variety of stakeholders. 


The winning team will gain industry recognition and valuable insights from senior leaders. Come ready to share your ideas and perspectives – no prior preparation is required!

Niamh Waldron

Social Impact and Sustainability Director, Sigma Capital

Niamh is Social Impact & Sustainability Director with Sigma Capital Group, a leading provider of institutionally invested build-to-rent (BTR) housing. She joined Sigma in 2020 after more than 30 years in education with experience in management and leadership roles. In her role she prioritises people and the communities in which Sigma operates, as the central focus for all engagement, partnerships, and activities. She is passionate about making a real and lasting impact and believes strongly that people are the key to achieving all ESG goals present and future.


Neil Terret

Investment Manager, HGP

Neil has previously held senior land positions in national and regional housebuilders and has also run his own real estate consultancy and advisory business with notable success in obtaining planning permission for a PBSA scheme in Durham. He has also spent time in real estate finance funding a broad range of real estate transactions across the Living Sector and in commercial property. Neil specialises in strategic and immediate land acquisition, planning promotion and deal structuring with notable success in obtaining a housing allocation for over 1,200 homes and 1.2m sqft of employment in South Yorkshire. Neil is a member of the RICS, runs ultra trail races, coaches girls cricket and spends time with his family in North Yorkshire.


James Blakey

Planning and Engagement Director, Moda

James is the Planning and Engagement Director at Moda Living who are delivering inclusive amenity rich living sector community neighbourhoods from Scotland to the south coast. James has over 33 years of property industry planning experience and has served on a series of multi-disciplinary and development company boards during his career. James is a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, a Trustee on a number of charities as well as being a Governor at Manchester Cathedral and is a member of the Scottish Government’s Housing Investment Taskforce.

James spends his time with politicians and officers as well as local community representatives together with highly talented in-house and specialist consultancy teams to deliver buildings and neighbourhoods of exceptional quality and lifestyle value.

When asked where he is based, James would say “on the train” given the scope and breadth of the expanding Moda portfolio.


Christine Burrows

Legal Director, Shoosmiths

Christine has over 12 years’ experience as a non-contentious construction lawyer.

Christine acts for clients across both the public and private sector. Her work involves negotiating building contracts, bonds, guarantees, collateral warranties, professional appointments and construction aspects of development agreements and agreements for lease.
