Consultation Responses

BPF response to the operation of new domestic EPC metrics

Back to Our Work

The BPF has responded to the Government consultation on the Home Energy Model (HEM) methodology for assessing existing dwellings and producing new EPC metrics.

Our response states that, while we welcome improvements to EPCs and support new minimum energy efficiency standards (MEES) for the private rented sector, we need a system that is simple and where the new EPC metrics and scoring system are easily understood by investors, developers, landlords and consumers. We also highlight the challenges that some properties, in particular blocks of flats and apartments, will face in meeting the new minimum standards and argue that there must be a route to MEES compliance for these types of buildings.
