BPF response to 5G rollout masts

Commenting on 5G rollout, our Policy Manager Adam Cohen said: “Our members want 5G rollout across the country and the economic benefits this will bring but as this report shows, the rules introduced in 2017 have had the opposite effect, slashing payments to landowners, fuelling disputes and slowing the rollout of new mobile infrastructure. What should be a relationship based on collaboration and mutual benefit between property owners and operators has become adversarial and contentious.

“The Government’s plan to extend this failed approach through the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act 2022 risks making the situation even worse. The Government urgently needs to review its approach to mobile telecommunications to stop the UK falling even further behind other countries”.
